Ways to read this site
What the site is designed to do, what has been checked and when, and what has not been tested.
What the site is designed to do
- The reading example is at the encounter page. There, Text view shows the whole example as text, with every passage, its source link and every reading, at your text size. “Back to the example” stays in view at the top, and Escape also returns you to the example.
- On the same page, Quiet lays the page flat with no art, scene or motion, and keeps every choice, including writing your own reading and making a reading path.
- Without JavaScript, the encounter page shows a text version of the example and the full essay.
- The site follows your system’s reduced-motion setting. The appearance follows your system’s Light or Dark setting, or the Light/Dark control on the main pages; the policy pages, the sample library and the work, edition, copy page follow the choice you make there.
- The site is designed so that everything can be reached and used with a keyboard. Quotations are real text, not images.
- The release-news signup form is hosted by Jotform, a third-party service. The site does not load it: your browser contacts Jotform, and any services its form uses, only when you open the form, which opens in a new tab.
What has been checked, and when
On 26 September 2026, automated checks in two browser engines (Chromium, and a build of WebKit, the engine of Safari; not Safari itself) covered keyboard order, focus and operation; layout from 320 to 1440 pixels wide, and at 200% text; reduced motion; the no-script version; Light and Dark; and automated accessibility rules, including text contrast. Layout was also checked in macOS’s WebKit engine at its real text zoom of 2.0.
The sample library was included in these checks on 26 September 2026: its layout at 200% text and at the real text zoom of 2.0 on phone widths, keyboard use, reduced motion, and Light and Dark.
Drag and hover were not tested. This is not a formal conformance claim, and it is not a substitute for testing with people who use assistive technology.
Known limits
- Speech output with screen readers has not yet been tested, including how formulas are read aloud.
- Safari itself, iPhone, iPad, Android, Firefox and operating-system text-size and contrast settings have not been tested.
- Text on the book, in the encounter page’s 3D scene and in Quiet, is sized with the page, so a larger text-size setting does not enlarge it. Text view shows every passage at your text size. On phones, and on any screen when your text size is larger, the passages are also listed below the page at your text size, and the page’s cue and controls follow them.
- The signup form itself belongs to Jotform, and its accessibility has not been checked.
